Interview Excerpt

Cambridge Who's Who: What makes your specific field an important aspect of education?
ADELINE E HUSS :  Music theory is an important part of education. Musical studies assist most of my students, whether they’re going into music as a profession or not. I think it’s pretty well proven that it helps them to do better on their SATs. They get a greater and deeper sense of concentration. The sciences and music connection is apparent. But because I’m in the field of music, and we must work closely with our students, we teach privately. We’re helping them one-on-one. Occasionally, we teach small classes. A lot of the time, our goal is to get to the nitty gritty.

What is the most significant issue facing your profession today?
Children will sometimes have a hard time socially in school, especially if they’re in classical music. It depends on the school system. Children need acceptance. Sometimes, when they find other children who take classical music [coursework], they feel a little more comfortable, because not everybody does that.
