Interview Excerpt

Cambridge Who's Who: What is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
DR. HAROLYNN R MCINTOSH ED.D.:  One of my greatest accomplishments was achieving my Ed.D. Additionally, I have mentored three people in doctorate programs, where two of them have graduated – one with an Ed.D. and the other with a D.Min. The third student is currently in the last stages of her dissertation to get an Ed.D.

What is the most significant issue facing your profession today?
The future, with regards to how we educate teachers who are going to enrich the children. We are still doing things the way we did years ago. In social studies and social sciences, they are still using a lot of the old lecture methods. That doesn’t work with the students anymore, so we need to be innovative. l would like to take the material and knowledge we have and embed it with some of the technological advances we’ve had, such as social networking structures and video game platforms. Funding has been an issue for all of us in the city of Chicago, particularly regarding the No Child Left Behind Act. The program is not bad; it can work with funding, but you can’t have it in place without money for basic things. You might have something flat on paper, but you have no way to implement the program, or have it do what it says it does.
