Interview Excerpt

Cambridge Who's Who: What would you like to promote most about yourself or your business?
RAYMOND B WHITE :  Our expertise with the populations that we serve, which includes neurologically-impaired youngsters aged 3 to 21 as well as children and youth with autism spectrum disorders – that’s about half the kids we serve in our education centers. We also do contract work with public school districts, which mostly deals with autism.

What are your short-term and long-term career goals? And what specific steps have you taken toward achieving these goals?
Short-term, we’re building a new school in the city of Pittsburgh, which is replacing an old one there to serve kids with serious emotional disorders and mental health issues. Right now we have an architect, we have a contractor picked and we’re starting a capital campaign.

How do you remain current in your industry?
I read a lot, first and foremost. I’m on the advisory board of the West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics, which is a forum for staying current on a lot of business things. I’m an adjunct faculty member there, so I teach a class there every other semester on risk management. I happen to be an undergraduate at WVU. We want to have the most professional people we can have. I tend to send people to conferences, but I seldom go myself. We allow employees up to $4,000 per year for professional training in the expansion of their capabilities.
