Cambridge Who's Who:
What would you like to promote most about yourself or your business?
BETH-ANN
MARTORELLO
: Quality assurance is important. It’s crucial to have policies and procedures in place, because they set the tone for the company. You have to ask: what are your standards, values and ethics? Sometimes in our industry, the tone at the top is silence. You see it in scandal after scandal and you wonder to yourself, what happened? Businesses need someone to conform the quality of their work and make sure controls and processes are operating. That’s what I do in my department and for my clients when I audit.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
When a client or someone says, “Thank you,” you know that you’ve made a positive contribution. Sometimes, you give them a negative rating, but the client is still so grateful that you were there.
How can this be?
Well, you audit their controls over their risks. Sometimes the controls are not properly designed or not operating effectively – they are being taught how to do something right. If I handed you an unsatisfactory, you’d be upset about it. But sometimes, the client finds meaning in what you’re doing.
