Biography Excerpt:
Ava Marie Sammarco is a licensed practical nurse in the Visiting Nurses’ division of Bassett Park Manor. Her role is on the managerial end of the nursing spectrum, as she supervises other LPNs, and teaches cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid procedures. As an expert in geriatric and acute care, Ms. Sammarco is responsible for treating patients under the direction of the physicians. Additionally, she is responsible for communicating good health habits to patients, their friends and family members who are being dispensed from the hospital.

     

Cambridge Who's Who: What is the most significant issue facing your profession today?  
AVA MARIE SAMMARCO :  Health insurance and health reform because there are so many people affected. When I worked in the free clinic, the waiting room was always packed. There needs to be coverage for everyone, but there isn’t enough money.

How do you remain current in your profession?
I read LPN 2009 and Nursing2009. I also administer many workshops.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
As I go in there and see those faces, I realize that whatever you give comes back to you. The patients have really enhanced my life; there is a lot of wisdom there. I’m there to help them.
