Born in Jamaica, she moved to England as a young woman to receive registered nurse and midwifery training. “I was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare by my aunt who worked as a nurse. I admired and wanted to emulate her,” explains Ms. Watt. “I couldn’t think of a more rewarding occupation.”

MONICA
DELARIE
WATT
: You’re not just helping the mothers; you are also helping their mate, family members and loved ones. As a result, family members and friends should be treated with respect and dignity.
What is the most difficult obstacle or challenge you have faced in pursuit of your goals?
When you do something hard that you’re passionate about, the challenge comes down to getting through – you don’t notice it because it appears easier than if you were doing something that you just hate doing. This is my passion and I love it. If you love something, of course there are compromises – like in a marriage. Considering the goodness that I’ve accomplished and the joy that I have gained, I can name one or two things in my life that were difficult or challenging, but my choices have been worth it.
What makes you a valuable resource in your industry?
With my vast experience as an obstetrical nurse, I can be an expert resource to new graduates.
