Early in Dr. Forbes’ career, she thrived in an era when women in the medical field of obstetrics and gynecology were rarely accepted; she paved the path for other females pursuing a profession in healthcare. Through her own contracting firm, Dr. Forbes developed the Warwich Medical and Professional Center. A legacy to the Newport News community, it consists of seven buildings totaling more than 100,000 square feet of office space housing doctor’s offices, surgical facilities and educational space for Christopher Newport University (CNU). Additionally, those Dr. Forbes mentored as undergraduates and graduates have progressed to become leaders in medicine, science, education and law.

Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Forbes' persistence in providing excellent gynecological care to her patients, along with her extensive knowledge of women’s healthcare, has earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients along the eastern seaboard. In the past 48 years, she has taken the initiative to grow professionally with her original patient base while expanding her knowledge and care to the fields of family care and geriatrics. She is the recipient of scores of awards and distinguished honors, among them: The Women of the Year in Business and Industry, Boys and Girls Club Medallion Award, formal recognition by the members of the United States Senate and Congress for her "unwavering commitment to serving the healthcare needs of military families," the Commonwealth of Virginia 39th Annual Humanitarian Award.
