Why F is an Expert:
I am an expert in staffing and recruitment for the Army.

Best Advice:
I have found out through a lot of heartache that if you always tell the people whom you work with and whom you service the truth, no matter how difficult that may be, you will never have to go back and try to cover up anything or protect anyone because you’ve always been up front. We are audited by a third party and they look at compliance. We do what we say we’re going to do.

Passionate about:
I’m passionate about getting the most benefits for our employees, which they are entitled to.

Biography Excerpt:
Human resource director Judith Trego is fully aware that ensuring a sustainable work environment is no easy task, especially when trying to do so for branches of the United States Army. A senior professional at the Letterkenny Army Depot, which is an industrial and technical center for air defense and tactical missile systems, Ms. Trego revitalizes workforces for the Army recruitment plan and enlists employees from a qualified pool of civilians. In order to ensure the repair of systems that assist officers in the defense of our nation, Ms. Trego and her associates must seek, identify and train professionals from all walks of life, including medical personnel, technicians and analytical agents.

Interview Excerpt

Cambridge Who's Who: How do you remain current in your profession?
JUDITH C. TREGO :  In the United States Army, everything that we work with is determined by public law. We have an annual regulation that comes out [along with] other changes. Everything in the human resources arena is updated annually in this; I have a hard copy. We have computer sites and search engines that are [particular] to the federal government. That’s really how we get the bulk of our updates. We also get them through the main department of the Army’s human resources community, which sends out information to all of our HR offices. We get information directly from them as well.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment to date?
I am in the process of transitioning the largest part of my workforce from Maryland to Pennsylvania. At some point, I’m going to have my entire workforce outside my door. To date, that [will be] my greatest accomplishment – to take the services that are split now and move them all back under one umbrella at one site for the Army. We have done 16 barracks order moves, gaining workloads from other organizations and successfully moving them to this location to make them feel like part of our local community.

What is the most significant issue facing your profession today?
It’s trying to replace ourselves and create the workforce of the future. How am I going to replace myself with someone who is at the beginning of their career, who I think is going to want to stay here, advance and help the Army? A lot of people take a lot of expertise with them when they leave here; half of our people could retire anytime. With the way the economy is (and people having children older), we have people who can retire, but have other commitments. We try to get people right out of college or trade school, have them mentored and get them into an occupation where they can progress and become journeymen in their trade.
