Biography Excerpt:
Marilou M. Peavley is a seasoned photographer based in Scottsdale, Arizona. The first detail you notice about her work is the depth of layering of the different components. The second thing you’ll notice is the richness of colors. This is due to her focus on the natural environment, which she prefers to shoot in the late afternoon. Ms. Peavley, who holds an associate of arts in continued education from Scottsdale Community College, has recently enrolled as a state photographer for the VFW Auxiliary Department of Arizona.

Interview Excerpt

Cambridge Who's Who: How do you advertise and market your services?
MARILOU MILDRED PEAVLEY :  I find word of mouth and referrals to be my best sources – those that come through past clients. I’ve done several photo exhibits at art shows in Scottsdale, but none lately. I am presently regrouping for a future show. I am the president of the Scottsdale Veterans of Foreign Wars; the position is taking up a lot of my time. I am ending my term in about five weeks, and then I’m going to be the state photographer. I’m going to be the district president for 2008 to 2009 this coming year and I’ll be traveling with the state president.

Have you shot for publications?
I have done some work for the Desert Botanical Garden here in Arizona. I have also shot for their brochure for “Las Noches de las Luminarias.” Here in the southwest, it’s a Mexican tradition where you take a small, brown paper bag, put an inch of sand in it and place a small tea light in it, which you light. You put a number of them on your walkway or in front of your house during Christmas. It depicts the pathways for Christ.

What advice can you offer fellow members who work in your industry?
Know your camera in different conditions, lighting and temperatures. The camera must become a part of you, where you become so comfortable that you don’t have to fiddle around anymore and wonder if it’s going to come out right. Learn all you can from the best resources in the business. Stay in touch with professional photographers and make them a part of your social and professional network.
