Biography Excerpt:
Carol L. Alisesky became a special education teacher to help others who have shared her experience as a mother of a special needs child. Her daughter, Leigh Ann Lightholder, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy but learned to live a positive life without feeling defeated or letting the disorder rule her life. When asked about her personal philosophy, Ms. Alisesky quotes her daughter’s words: “I have cerebral palsy, but cerebral palsy doesn’t have me.” This has inspired both of them to look at life as a reward and not a burden. In a quest to care for and love others, Ms. Alisesky finds certain inspiration in these words as she fulfills her dream of motivating others. Although doctors said that her daughter would be lying in bed for the rest of her life, Ms. Lightholder has since proven them wrong. Presently, she is an independent woman who has been living in her own apartment for 20 years and is still advancing in her life.
