For the majority of his career, Mr. Kocian worked in the medical statistics field. He served the United States government as a United States Army civilian for many years. This includes a stint from 1965 to 1976 at the Office of the Surgeon General; from 1963 to 1965 as a supervisory statistician for the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Electrification Administration; and from 1961 to 1963 for the Military Sea Transportation Service. He participated in publishing the “Medical Statistics in World War II” book of the United States Army.

Charles Joseph Kocian, DDG, LFIBA, is the science advisor and owner of International Pyrotechnics Apparatus, Inc. The exporting and distribution company specializes in firefighting apparatuses including fire engines, ambulances, pump trucks and special gear.

Cambridge Who's Who: What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career?  
CHARLES J KOCIAN :  Working for the office of the Surgeon General Army. I did that for about 11 years.

What were some of your responsibilities working for the Surgeon General?
Being supervisor of my department, I was in charge as fire warden, bomb squad warden and in charge of the evacuation of the premises and dismissal of employees to go home. This assignment was at the Office of the Surgeon General, in the Forestal Building.
